soooooo scenario- superbowl. fun, friends, drinking, commenting on commercials.....sneaking off to the snowy backyard to take some grainy iphone pics while everyone wonders why we are missing the halftime show? yes, this really does happen, almost on a daily basis. spent sunday having a girls day of plays, pizza, and cocktails before finally deciding to join society for the game but realizing photo ops are so much better. brought out the bronze docs once more, the snow and ice were not something to attempt in my usual 6 inch heels. faintly jealous of amanda's over the knee boots, but worked off the jealousy by scaling the brick walls behind the house while we avoided being impaled by icicles. accidentally gestured and threw my fave ring into the snow, which resulted in about 5 minutes of frantic searching. another lazy day of doing something and nothing, all at once.....

typical weekend, although somehow all the stars were aligned and we managed to make to monday unscathed but with the satisfaction that all outfits and makeup fell into place. saturday night was a departure for us, going to salsa night at a local bar (i felt strangely out of place, like baby in dirty dancing... i almost wanted to say "i carried a watermelon" but i was too busy learning the moves...one two step......) and a lazy day on sunday hitting up our hookah bar for some girl time and smoothies- and hookah, of course (orange flavor). i have to say saturday was the high point of the evening, as amanda wore her favie coat that echoed a salsa dancers skirt and i somehow layered a day of eyeshadow plus my new faves to come up with a bruise like shade that i didn't want to wash off at the end of the night. unexpected and totally out of the box, do you expect anything else??!

another by kelly lenard (see her in my last post here and also here), still from spending a weekend of drinking all night and driving around finding the most abandoned places to take pics during the day. i can't believe she found the only piece of green in the cold and frozen landscape, and this is why i absolutely love her and her talent. found this shirt which, while not providing any sort of warmth to speak of, looks the closest thing to a sports jersey i can bear to put on so it works for me. the lazer cut is absolutely amazing, but i always have a tinge of nervousness wearing it since i usually wear things that are way less delicate. although i felt i had to tiptoe through the ready to collapse surroundings (we almost died from fear and laughter while i tentatively sat on an old tractor tire in the old attached barn while we both paid more attention to the ceiling that looked like the bottom of a trampoline with a group of gradeschoolers on top of it than taking pictures), we loved the feeling of near criminal behavior as we snuck through brokedown houses.

shots from a month or two ago from one of my favorite ways to spend a day- with the incredible kelly lenard and her snuggly dog sam... freezing our asses off, dragging old chairs around public places, and enjoying weird looks from people who are trying to appreciate the scenery while we have a moment at the dunes. kelly, who also shot my pics for my post here, proved that her limitless talent only gets more and more insanely creative with each shot. while you usually won't find me on a december day where the windchill brings the temps down to the teens wearing anything less than 5 different layers, i didn't even feel the cold because we were having way too much fun. still a little torn on how i feel about the shoes, i always prefer a little bigger platform, but they seem to go with the dress so i suppose i will bring them out every once in a while. in any case, it is a good contrast to the broken down setting (and flea market find chair kelly's husband was hoping we would lose at our shoot) that we played in.

last night in the city began with us tiredly trying to drag ourselves out after a day of doing nothing but sitting in a bar and people watching...promising each other that we could just go lay down after we picked up some food and visited our friends at hype one last time. however, not ones to waste an outfit and severe eyes, the evening turned into a repeat of the last few, somehow losing several hours of the night and ending in the basement of a club laughing until we cried and dancing to stereo love again and again. 5am stop at a dunkin donuts rounded out our evening, the last midwest touch on our east coast adventure. three hours of sleep later it was time to put together the room that looked like a thrift store exploded on it and walk our luggage down the four flights of stairs (much harder in reverse, we should have taken pictures of me trying to struggle with my 50 lb suitcase, this time going down- even worse than the walk up). don't think the city was ready for us, but we definitely turned it on its head, if only for a minute.

after waking up at 6am in a new york hotel trying to figure out who was making constant weird noises throughout the night (for the record- pigeons), we spent our first real day browsing through soho and trying to keep ourselves from pulling out all major credit cards and possibly a second bag for the way home. for our second night, our usual camera-whoreishness somehow was put on the backburner while we enjoyed another progressive drinking evening meeting new people and occasionally dancing on bars. we did find this completely dark hole in the wall that featured real working candles covering every spare surface (the bartender told us it took her nearly an hour each night to light the individual tealights on the ten thousand sconces along the wall. she either was lying or incredibly talented), a giant throne, and medieval church pews scattered throughout the back. found our new favorite bar hype, and we met a great group that joined us in our stumble to meatpacking....where we somehow managed to avoid the ridiculously overpriced cover and end the night closing down one of the hottest clubs in the area. reason #264 why we love nyc.

so we managed to make it to nyc and back in one piece, with our bags clocking in at just a few ounces under the 50 lb weight limit. who knew we would have to carry our luggage up 4 flights of stairs to our walk- in closet of a room...but yet it was so worth it. somehow we managed to make it through getting frisked at the airport, me almost starting an argument with the airport security man about whether or not my sweater was a jacket or a shirt (i win, its a shirt), and having people stare for our excessive amount of photo opportunities on the plane. you would have thought it was our first time out of the house. first night out we somehow managed to hit up every hole in the wall bar in the city. our friends once described us as being a hurricane, and i think we took new york by storm on this one.

random shots from new years eve......amanda and i took the ultimate road trip to nashville and spent the weekend struggling with our new obsession- hot rollers- having a progressive drinking afternoon while holding back tears over the lack of open stores on new years day, and bringing about two weeks worth of luggage for a two day trip, most of which was left inadvertantly at the guy's place anyway. spending the evening getting pumped up for our new york trip and debating the idea of spending $80 each way apiece to check luggage (one suitcase for clothes, two for shoes-each). may have some diva moves by having the nashville forgotten wardrobe fed-exed to ny as well. happy new years everybody, hope you have as much fun as we do. xoxo

relaxing evening with amanda, drinking our new years eve reserves, watching awesome teen movies (hannah montana and easy a?! must see!), and getting ready by organizing our wardrobes for our trips next week. i think we will be the only people who have to check two suitcases each for a three day trip. the arrival of her brand new jimmy choo hunter boots prompted an impromptu photo shoot on her porch, while we enjoyed not freezing our asses off since the temps finally decided to creep above 40. thought her sparkling new boots are a good contrast to my broke down bcbg's....back to more movies while we download music and bid farewell to 2010!

i would like to say that my lack of posting has been out of sheer laziness, or that i have soooo much going on in my life that i can't find time to dress myself, let alone post, but really it is my lack of a properly functioning internet as well as a lack of a photographer. good thing one of my best ever friends kelly lenard is extremely talented and was able to shoot a few unexpected pics in the most unexpected of places- wine fest- this spring. wine fest also happened to take place near this awesomely weird campsite that included several random broken down cars and trucks, army gear, and a paintball site to make any military trainee jealous. (i assume, i don't know for sure, but it sure made me jealous so its close enough). probably one of the only times you may catch me in flats, but hiking through extreme mud while drinking a variety of alcoholic beverages with my bff's calls for some underappreciated footwear.

spending another dreary day at the wine bar with ben and andrew of ballcaps and neckties....at this point i am beginning to think spring is never going to get here, save for a few days of near warmth that we have had recently. however, i refuse to let the weather get the best of me and will sacrifice comfort and warmth and not wear a coat, even if its 32 degrees out, just on principle- spring is supposed to be officially here, right?! wearing my cozy sweater that i will be sad to put away when it does get warm- i love that i can use the extra fabric as a blanket when i sit. on accident, i wore a really old pair of tights that i have worn to death- i don't know why i have kept them because they are falling apart, but after coming to terms with them as the day went on, i decided that i love the burnout like texture that they possess. i like the look so much that i might actually wear them again, this time on purpose!

back at it after a week in nyc.....great week, although getting snowed in in the city the last few days and becoming intimately familiar with the la guardia airport is not my preferred way to spend a weekend (snow should be pretty, and umbrellas should only be used for a light rain, not as a shield against torrential sleet-ick). coming home to more gray dreary weather doesn't help- i'm beginning to think it will never get warm here. hiking the monon with ben and andrew of ballcaps and neckties in a pair of the worst hiking boots imaginable made for some good laughs when actual hikers and runners would stop and give weird looks. also wearing one of my very few new york purchases- a zara snake belt...still kind of wondering about the functionality, but i feel as though it would be a great addition to almost every outfit.

my warmest sleevless winter jacket as well as a pair of my favorite shoes- bcbg's mendel boots. both of these purchases were my holiday gifts to myself, and i swear that they are the gifts that keep on giving, as i have got tons of use from each of them. although andrew from ballcaps and neckties and i spent the chilly day walking around the city finding places to take pictures, this coat kept me super warm and comfy, and the platform on the shoes make them tres wearable. the little metal kick in the back gives me lots of stability, as i am one to try to rock back on my high heels when i am standing around as well as run places when i get too cold (which is often). i love the texture of the coat and shoes over the all black outfit. for a little while, i blamed my poor dog for all of my black being covered in little hairs until i realized it was my coat that was doing all of the damage (and i love the coat too much to get mad at IT). oddly enough, everything else in my life is filled with color, my wardrobe being the only exclusion......

more fun times at the alley cat with ballcaps and neckties andrew- this is actually the second set of the last post- we had too many good opportunities to take pictures from this place to just limit ourselves to one posting. still wearing my favorite sweater- make fun of me if you will, but i love the versatility of the hood/ neck element. and in a bar like this, you need layers because it tends to be a little....drafty. also wearing my bebe boots, which either make my feet look abnormally huge or maybe it is just the camera angle on that second to last shot, but in either case, i am going to stick with them. congratulations to my talented photographer ben for the lighting in these pictures- it couldn't have turned out better. have to love a bar where every square inch is covered in graffiti, and the cleanest place to sit is on the pool table....

more fun times with ballcaps and neckties andrew.......at this point, it seems that all we like to do is enthusiastically hang out in grungy alleys, but that is not the case at all. we sometimes hang out in equally fabulous grungy alley bars, like the alley cat, which is where we were headed for these pictures. sure getting sick of winter, but i was glad that i was able to use my extra large collar (or is it more appropriately called a turtleneck? or is it just a neck?...still have yet to figure it out) as a functioning hood. and even though it is the middle of winter, i had to wear my most favorite open toe shoes, which did nothing to stop my ankles from enjoying the breeze that seeped in through the zips on my pants. somehow the walk was worth it.....gotta love the lounge.

my obsession with snakes and skulls continues, and somehow i inadvertently combined about three of my faves in this outfit. i'm still torn if i am in love with the matte nailpolish (i have owned it in the glossy version for a while and wear it year round)- to me it almost looks like i dipped my nails in wall paint, but i could possibly be doing it wrong. or possibly applying it as i am running out the door, which is why i end up looking like i used a 2 year old child as a manicurist. i decided to wear my favorite boots again, which stand up surprisingly well to the slush/snow/salt/puddles that populate the area as well as carry my new favorite lucite clutch. all that aside, busy weekend where i was successfully able to avoid more football, dance party until 5am, and still fit in a completely productive work schedule. also had time to hit up the town with my friend andrew with ballcaps and neckties to squeeze in some photos.....success!!

my favorite weekend outfit on yet another typical cold, gray january day. i have what appears to be an extreme sensitivity to cold, and yet if i get too hot you can pretty much guarantee you will hear me complain as well, so when i have a day off work i tend to throw on as many tops that will keep me warm and deconstruct from there. i guess it doesn't help that my leggings are ventilated and only serve the purpose of enhancing my outfit rather than keeping me warm. piles of shirts, piles of rings, a big cozy hat, my favorite shoes, and a purse big enough to fit anything i may accumulate during the day makes for the best weekend wardrobe. another collaboration with andrew from ballcaps and neckties and his talented photographer friend ben means that the weekend will be anything but boring.....

remix 2010

starting 2010 off with new ideas and collaborations: working with andrew of ballcaps and neckties and the results have been worth the wait. it is awesome to work with another blogger who shares similar ideas, and also helped me find some of the best locations around for pictures. despite the freezing cold, we braved the outdoors long enough to shoot this set at one of my frequented weekend spots...note to self, do not wear purple lipstick over already frozen purple lips, the results leave something to be desired. beginning the new year with my all time favorite scarf again, showing that it can be just as versatile for the winter as it is during the summer (whatever it takes to convince myself that it was a "must have" purchase). also had fun editing my usually huge luggage sized purses down to the bare essentials to fit in my lucite bcbg clutch. with all my belongings on display, i have to keep it minimalistic. andrew is wearing a hardwood classics by the franchise pacers hat, h&m scarf, burberry tie, brooks brothers shirt, and a zegna blazer.

thanksgiving day, posted slighty belatedly....in my quest to find a photographer, i recruited my talented aunt, who not only was gracious enough to volunteer her crew of fabulous animals as a backdrop, but also took some great pictures. it is finally getting cold and while i am not a fan of anything below 75 degrees, i have a yearly internal struggle about the seasons changing because i do love fall and winter fashion (including- but not limited to- boots, layers, jackets, fur and anything sparkly). while i am usually not without a 6 inch heel- minimum- i love love love these bronze dr martens- thanks for the b day gift con and jon! my boot collection has also seemed to have grown exponentially these past few months and i will need literally an entire month of postings to show off my collection. and i think i am ok with that.....

so i realize that i have been completely negligent about posting, but in my defense, this is the first time in the past few weeks that i have been accessorizing with anything other than a hospital-issue regulation facemask, since i have been battling the flu (not swine!) for the past week and half. during this time, my camera also died, which made it tres difficult to take a picture during the daylight because it had to charge for no less than 2 hours before it was able to work, so please accept these darkened shots as a pre halloween post. or something. and i swear i don't abuse or stomp on my dog, he has the tendancy to act abused and guilty if you give him any command ("sit, louis!" turns into "bad dog louis you need to lay down and slink away before i beat you!" in his head). he does act happy most of the time, especially when you are feeding him.....which i do, on a regular basis- i'm nice, i swear!! today my trip out into civilization was a huge success, as i found two awesome pairs of shoes: bronze doc martins (genius!) and another pair of skanky sky high bebe heels (weird, i know, right?). also solidified my halloween costume- pictures will be coming soon. i promise to be more diligent about my posting, and will try and refrain from strange punctuation that i seem to be all about today. blame it on the swine.....

please excuse the lack of posts lately- not for lack of outfits, that is for sure....more for lack of photographers. my obsession for large obscenely high heels continues, and i have been lusting over these particular footwear items for quite some time now. the first two are charles anastase- its a little hard to see from the front view, but the heels/ platforms on these are no less than 12 inches tall....it makes me want to test them out asap. the next two are alexander mcqueen, from his spring 2010 collection.......completely unwearable, but i want to own each pair simply because the silhouette on each is amazing and completely new. the last pair is bcbg- in stores now, but slightly out of my budget still. i have at least 5 outfits that i have mentally paired them with, and as soon as i stumble on to a pot of gold or a magical money tree, i will own them. along with at least one of the anastase pairs. for now, i will stick with setting them as my computer wallpaper and carrying a little picture ripped from elle uk with me....

coffee with the hoebag at her apartment. our complete lack of motivation to venture out into the rainy humid outdoors the past week has kept us inside, so we decided to go ahead and take some pictures right there. we were worried that i would blend too much into her all black furniture, but decided that it wouldn't be a complete crime, since we both love black anything. i am wearing my new favorite nail polish, mac's jealousy, which is a deep nearly black forest green. i didn't think that i would be so eager to jump on the green bandwagon, but the fact that it almost has more blue in it has made me a convert. the only issue i have had so far is when i go to remove it for touch ups, somehow i end up with a mossy shade of green coating my hands and nails. this pretty much guarantees that i will be wearing it all season because i can't apparently take it off enough as to where i can switch colors. tricky, tricky. have been rediscovering american apparel online again- after a brief fling in college where i discovered everything was affordable and completely cute, i havent shopped there in forever and this dress makes me wonder why. i am still waiting with great anticipation for all saints to open their much-rumored about us website, but am happy to be saving my pennies until then.

i. love. these. boots. and its finally getting cold enough to wear them. while overall, i am having a hard time adjusting to the cooler weather because i am a big big weenie, these boots seem to make it a little more palatable. i have also been pairing tights with just about everything as well, and i am dreading the day when it is cold enough that i am actually wearing tights under my pants (less as a fashion statement and more as just a means to keep warm). i am complete drama about the cold, but still anxiously awaiting the moment when i can pull out everything fur.......

some of my current faves: the shoes are all of my fall staples- have to love anything heeled (higher the better), leather, thigh high, embellished, or sparkly. also must love everything with a platform, which makes it a little easier to wear a heel while making me look a little taller in the process- always a plus. the jewelry box was- at one point- organized, but my daily accessorization (my method is to tear through everything until i am moved to wear something) two seconds before i breeze out the door has turned it into kind of a mess only loosely contained in the box. it has also started to spill out onto the dresser and has overtaken part of the bathroom; i am kind of under the impression that some of my pieces are having little jewelry babies in there because i don't remember collecting this much due to my own efforts. a lot of my favorite jewelry pieces are vintage pieces from my mom or aunts or weirdly unique artistic pieces i find randomly. in all the above pics, please ignore the large piles of dog hair and little bits of chew toy stuffing on the floor. it seems to dominate my house and i can never get on top of it, no matter how hard i try. i have started to think of it as an accessory for my home- and really, who doesn't love a good accessory?!

the last official weekend of summer proved to be an appropriate denouement to the cold dreary season we have been experiencing. it stopped raining long enough during our trip downtown for lunch to shoot a few pictures before it started pouring again. i am still borrowing heavily on the 90's influences this week- note to self, do not wear a bodysuit when you go out for drinks, unless your idea of a good time is removing every article of clothing each time you have to use the bathroom. i was excited for the chance to wear my favorite scarf out- after lusting over one for several years i finally got it for myself this spring and it is just as marvelous as i had imagined it would be. outfits this weekend are some variation of the above- also the addition of tights under the shorts for the evening. a few things that i accomplished this weekend: late night trip to pick up hoebag, discovered marble pop, ate lunch at the coldest diner ever, realized my beer pong skills still leave something to be desired, smuggled a to-go cup out of a bar, shopping and discovering that the shoes i have wanted got marked down to super clearance today and they had one pair in my size left (it was fate), picked up some fall staples at the mall, watched a clip from "so you think you can dance" about 2 million times (black and white styling and choreography by wade robson to the song "ruby blue", amazing), snuggled with some dogs, and was too lazy to put on clothes this am so i wore my nightgown with pants/heels from last night out and received so many compliments (will not be repeated, but still kind of humorous). long weekends are the best.....now time to go back to work.......

during my gradeschool years (ok i may be dating myself a little here...), i had a black and gold leopard bodysuit that i wore with just about everything. my daily outfit would be some variation of that infamous leopard worn under jean shorts, some kind of t shirt (at that time the idea of matching colors didn't really come to mind, i was just going for overall concept), and a choice of my cowboy boots or pink la gear sneakers. while my taste in footwear has improved and tends to be more high heel and less hightop, i find myself revisiting the "saved by the bell" years and breaking out the bodysuit yet again. and it's just as fun as i remember.....

while i own and continue to re-read my copy of "influence", idolize all of the "kates" and their enviable effortless style, and tivo gossip girl so i can obsess over eric daman's genius, i find my closet looking like it was taken over a guy lately. and no, i'm not talking about the "menswear" style that has infiltrated every department store and boutique this season (while i wish that i could easily whip up a "boyfriend" style look that is so popular now, it sadly makes me look like i am about 15 and trying on my fathers clothes- not something to emulate). mickey avalon has long been a musical muse-slash-obsession of mine, but only recently did i realize that mickey and his contemporaries have been rocking the androgynous look for quite some time now- and that i am eagerly filling my closet to the brim with their wardrobes: studded belt? check! fedora (to be worn over just rolled out of bed hair)? check! black ripped skinnies? check! embellished vests and boots, loads of huge silver rings, and piles of greasy eyeliner? check, check, and check!! i have not only accepted that my version of "menswear" this season will be a little less office and a little more rock star, but i also eagerly anticipate the arrival of my topshop leather skinny pants next week (a nearly exact replica of the ones worn by russell brand as he serenaded kristen bell in "forgetting sarah marshall"). my take? rock on.

there is something about a flower nursery that makes me want to battle my inner voice that is cheering for the approaching cold weather ("yes! fall! sweaters! fur! jackets!") and makes me want to squeeze the last few drops out of my summer wardrobe. while this location was hotly debated (i love u hoebag for indulging me on this one), i think the contrast between the taupe/putty colored outfit and the colors of the shop are a win. these shoes are my absolute summer favorite for two summers running, even though i can practically hear my feet cry whenever i contemplate breaking them out. the vest will work nicely into fall, and it is in heavy rotation because as always, i love a good bedazzled piece.

Fall, you have my permission to move on in.......

i absolutely love this top- from the front it looks like your generic boring old black tee, but the back is so fun. it is also surprisingly warm, which is important to someone like me who feels like they live in a perpetual icebox. black on black on black is supposed to be some sort of faux pas, but i love the monochrome look....the shot of color in the back is all it needs. my two fave items for everyday now are the booties- even though they have been sufficiently trashed this past week from tromping around NYC, i am committed to wearing them out- and the octopus ring, probably because i am drawn to anything that combines weirdness and sparkle.
